I’m glad Richard Ashcroft has dropped that arrogant swagger nonsense (ala yer mid 90s Oasis yawnathon). He’s grown up a bit and he looks a bit willowy and vulnerable in this video, like life has dropped him a hard knock or two in the past 10 years and he’s emerged just a bit more fragile from the experience. Not unlike all of us p’haps.
I don’t always bother with videos now, but this is for all the above reasons, well, ahem, gorgeous.
Or if You Tube is buffering you can watch the video here.

Ole Mr Ashcroft will always hold a tiny corner of my musical heart if only for Bitter Sweet Symphony. That video was the first sign of Hoxton’s change into a buzzing little area; Richard Ashcroft walking up and down Hoxton Street. We loved that for two reasons = one we’d never seen Hoxton on the tv much before then and two everyone thought he walked like me!
Haven’t commented in a little while but the postings have been good!

I don’t think that swagger is overly Oasis – it’s more like The Pink Panther….watch a clip of PP and then watch Bitter Sweet Symphony. All he’s missing is the tail!

I had kind of given up on Mr ‘I’m-best-songwriter-in-the-world-me’ Ashcroft, but you’re right – this is a great tune and he looks kind of… believable. Must have stopped hanging around the Gallaghers!

I’ve always been ‘take/leave’ about The Verve, although Bitter Sweet is a belter. I’ve always thought he’s got the look of Serge Gainsbourg, and the voice of Neil Diamond.
