I was watching old footage of the Tube recently and I have to say I really enjoyed Paul Young singing this song. I really hated him when I was little, struggling to hit the notes, like a kind of voice-straining estate agent from Harlow. I thought his performance was great the other night though. Anyway, far better, of course, is Ann Peebles’ version. If you can, do get hold of ‘Straight From The Heart’ (sleeve above). This album has all the heartache and smoky charm of Candi Staton but grainier somehow. Again, I’m at the mercy of what’s available to you on the web. What’ I’d really like to blow your gaskets with is ‘99lbs’ or ’somebody’s on your case’. Maybe one day in the not too distant future I can post that up here. For now though, this is more than adequate. I slipped, tripped and fell in love with this singer after first hearing this album 15 years ago now.
